Please don’t misunderstand us. Paws Pet Supermarket is a pet shop. This is no place for politics, and we don’t mean to offend.

Nevertheless, we do one thing, maintain one principle that is no doubt going to be taken as political no matter what we say about it: we keep our business strictly local.

Paws Pet Supermarket is about strengthening Britain’s economy on a local scale. We buy only goods that were manufactured here, so that all the money made goes back to local businesses. This in turn ensures that, at least here on a micro level, we can keep jobs going and keep things strong.

That is truly the big thing that parents are concerned with, at least as far as this decision is concerned.

At Paws Pet Supermarket, we are pleased to say: yes. Pets are good for kids.

What we at Paws Pet Supermarket have found in our 16 years of business is that pets provide an interesting and different element to your child’s life that they may not have otherwise. What kind of pet it is doesn’t necessarily matter so much.

Pets are good for your kids for two reasons.

The first is that they teach your children responsibility. Pets can make a fine lesson for youngsters who need to learn how to take care of things. By placing the pet in your child’s care – with some supervision of course – you have a chance to teach responsibility where the consequences are immediately observable.

But more than that – pets can be companions for kids when other kids wouldn’t want to be. The saying is true: there is no better psychologist than a puppy licking your face.

We’re not saying that dogs and cats aren’t hardy creatures. They are. They can take care of themselves if need be.
We’re not saying that dogs and cats aren’t hardy creatures. They are. They can take care of themselves if need be. But on the other hand, if something’s wrong, you wouldn’t necessarily know about it.

Sure, you’d recognize some symptoms. Dogs don’t eat when they get sick, for example, so as to induce an immune response. They also grow lethargic. They don’t have as much energy.

But do you know what specifically is wrong with them? Can you identify a disease, or a parasite? Can you even tell the difference between them?

Maybe you can. And maybe you can’t. In either case, however, the vet is a strong help and a good resource on how to take care of your pet – how to get them stronger again and back to normal.

Animals in nature are used to recycling – defecating – pretty much wherever they like. It serves as a territorial marker, and it’s not like nature really cares about where it goes.

Now, take a cat. A cat is a domesticated outdoor animal. And because cats are longer, lither, and lack the robust appearance of dogs, they tend to be kept indoors.

Nothing wrong with indoor animals, of course. But its habits are designed around an outdoor habitat, not an indoor one. The habits of marking territory and recycling whenever there’s time, wherever there’s room, are bred into cats through ages of evolution.

You can’t expect that to change just because your cat is inside.

So, if you can’t change it – and cats are a difficult animal to train – you have to find a way to facilitate it and contain it. Hence, the litter box: a place that contains these distasteful functions and keeps them from happening all over your house.

We can help you with that.

It might be cute when your dogs and cats end up sleeping in all the weirdest places. The sight of a cat sprawled out on the couch, or a dog asleep at the master’s feet. These are sights we associate with domesticity and with old-time comfort.

Of course, it’s not so charming when they end up in your bed. You can say you like it as much as you want, but we all of us know there is a certain tension that enters with the pets. The smell of them gets all over your sheets, you’re stuck cleaning out the hair, because they don’t stop shedding. On top of that, nothing ruins being close with your partner like a dog worming its way up the middle.

That’s why beds are awesome.

These beds tend to come in multiple types, and multiple sizes. They’re designed to fit the needs of dogs and cats and other animals regardless of what size they are.

The typical bed is going to be very much like the picture we’ve included here. It’s a nest, where the dog curls up in and generally becomes comfortable. It’s also possible, however, to make beds that are more like little houses that the animals creep up into. These are enclosed beds. They’re not designed for your pets to be claustrophobic about.

And what’s neat about them is their adaptability. Just because it says dog bed doesn’t mean you can only limit it to dogs.

They have intelligence on a par with dolphins and lifespans that are equivalent to humans. Taking care of them is a huge commitment, but the reward is that you get a great pet and a fine companion who will last you for years and years.

Let us give you a list of five different ones.

African Gray Parrots

They are African and they are gray. They have long red streaks in their tails and can imitate human voices in addition to other sounds. They typically live about 40-60 years.

Quaker Parrots

These parrots are bright green, with blue visible on certain parts of their flying feathers. These are highly intelligent animals, and they try to imitate human sounds from birth. As they get older, they become excellent talkers. They live approximately 20 years.

Eclectus Parrots

These are parrots known for their vivid colors and clarity of speech. Female parrots are red with a blue belly, while males are bright green with blue and red patches on them. They are more than a foot long, and their lifespan is incredibly impressive at 50-75 years.

Senegal Parrots

These are parrots that vary in their coloration. Typically you’ll see some kind of green and yellow on the body, and a gray head. They live approximately 25 years.

Blue and Yellow Macaws

These are the big kids. They’re big and strong and keeping them can be a challenge. But if you’re up to it, they make very affectionate companions, living for anywhere from 30 to 70 years.

They’re like air fresheners. However, they do have their limits. You only put it down in a limited quantity; meanwhile, the cat is eating food and leaving droppings over and over again.

Eventually, one quantity has to outnumber the other. Especially since the scent suppressants lose their potency as they continue to suppress. That stink will start up again, and it will not go away.

This is especially true in cases where you’ve isolated the litter box and left it in a small room in the house. It will quickly take over the air in that little part of the house and you’ll find it overwhelming.

The best way to deal with this is to clean the litter box often. How often will obviously depend on your cat – if it’s strictly indoors, probably once or twice a week. If you let your cat outside, you might not need a litter box at all.

We go out of our way to get a fun-loving creature of companionship who loves to go outdoors and be close and be loyal. Dogs love these things.

What we do, then, is we lock them up in a house. We keep them separate from us at all times. We do everything we can to avoid dealing with them. And even though we know what a help they can be, we end up treating them like burdens.

That is just the meanest thing we can do to them. It’s a wonder they love us as much as they do.

And while we at Paws Pet Supermarket are all about buying toys to play with your dogs, we also know that you’re busy. Sometimes the best thing you can do to unwind is to just walk away for a while.

Paws Pet Supermarket agrees with that. We just think your dog should go with you.

The simple truth, especially if you live in the city, is that you have to walk your dog to let them relieve themselves. But that walk can be more than just a simple maintenance. It gives you a chance to get outside and stretch your legs and feel the sunlight on your face.

That exercise that you’re getting is going to be good for your dog, too. Not just in terms of physical benefit, but in terms of emotional benefit, which is what dogs need now more than ever.
